VISA REQUIREMENTS

A passport is required by all travellers except the following:

  1. Travellers with an original birth certificate accompanied by an official photo ID such as a driving licence issued to citizens of Canada and the United States of America.
  2. Travellers with a Seaman Book provided they are travelling on duty.
  3. Travellers with a Permanent Resident or Resident Alien Card (Form no. I-551) issued by United States authorities to foreign residents of the United States of America provided they are arriving directly from the United States mainland.
  4. Travellers with «Kinderausweis» a German identity document issued to children aged less than 16 years old.

Document Validity

Passports and alternative papers, or either of them, must be valid on arrival.

Visa Issuance

Before arrival: Travellers are kindly requested to contact the nearest representation of the United Kingdom.

Visa Exemptions

All travellers must hold a visa except the following:

  1. Travellers with British passports regardless of endorsement in passport concerning their citizenship.
  2. The following 103 countries require the following documents :    Passport:   Visa: 

  3. Citizens of People's Republic of China provided they have passports issued by Hong Kong (A Special Administrative Region of China) or by Macao (A Special Administrative Region of China).
  4. Travellers with a residence or re-entry permit issued by the British Virgin Islands to foreign residents.
  5. Permanent Resident or Resident Alien Card (either Form no. I-551) issued by United States authorities to foreign residents of the United States of America provided they are directly arriving from the United States mainland.

The following 88 countries require the following documents :    Passport:   Visa: 

TWOV (Transit Without Visa)

TWOV is permissible for travellers continuing their trip to a third country with the same plane within 24 hours provided they have all necessary documents for their next trip.

Additional information

  1. All travellers must have enough money for their stay, confirmed return or onward tickets, and all necessary documents for their next trip. The transporting carrier will be accountable for any expenses related to hotel accommodation and deportation of visitor to the country of departure from case the traveller does not respect the rules.
  2. If applicable, visa exemption is given to travellers staying for no more than 30 days unless otherwise specified. Extensions are possible.

Travellers will be denied entry if they do not abide by entry rules.

CUSTOMS AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE
Import regulations

Travellers aged 18 years old or more are allowed free import of:

  • Half a pound of tobacco, 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars;
  • One quart of wine or alcoholic drinks.
Pets
  1. Cats and dogs must be accompanied by a health certificate issued by the veterinary authority of the home country indicating:
    1. A description of the animals. Animals must always be identified with a microchip or tattoo;
      • that animals are healthy and free from any symptoms of infectious diseases;
      • that animals have been treated against internal and external parasites;
      • that dogs have been vaccinated against Parainfluenze, Leptospirosis, Canine Parvovirus, Distemper, Hepatitis, Adenovirus, and Lyme Disease;
      • that cats have been vaccinated against Feline Calicivirus, Panleukopenia, Feline Rhinotracheitis, and Feline Leukemia;
      • that cats or dogs have been in the home country or the country of export for no less 6 months immediately before shipment
  2. In case the pets are arriving from scheduled rabies non-endemic countries, the certificate must indicate that there has been no rabies among unquarantined animals in the home country or the country of export for the past 24 months; such countries include Anguilla, Antigua, Australia, Barbados, Republic of Ireland, Jamaica, Montserrat, New Zealand, St. Kitts, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent, the United Kingdom and Virgin Islands (United States of America).
  3. In case the pets are arriving from non-scheduled rabies-endemic countries, the certificate must indicate:
    • that the home area or the exporting area is not presently under rabies quarantine;
    • that the cats and dogs have been given at least two rabies inactivated vaccines (the first not earlier than three months old and the other at least six months later);
    • that a serological test has been carried out four months after the first vaccination and at least one month after the second or subsequent vaccination. Animals will be allowed to enter up to 12 months after the last booster shot subject to positive blood tests (>0,5u/ml). Furthermore, the Veterinary Department must be notified of the date, time, transporting carrier and port of entry at least 24 hours before confirmed arrival. All rules must be complied with and all relevant documents must be submitted at the port of entry to facilitate clearance and to avoid such measures as deportation, quarantine or mercy-killing of the animals. The animals must be clinically healthy on arrival and must be confined until allowed to enter. Fees apply to each animal individually.
    • These rules are subject to change and the owner is responsible for being aware of any new changes or conditions through contacting the Veterinary Division, Department of Agriculture, Paraquita Bay, Tortola.
Baggage Clearance regulations

A traveller's luggage should be cleared at the final destination airport in the British Virgin Islands so long as it is labelled as required.
a. Exemption:
Luggage of transit travellers whose destination is outside the British Virgin Islands so long as it is labelled to that destination.
N.B.
Some carriers do not allow labelling of luggage. In such case, traveller's luggage should be cleared at each transit stop in the British Virgin Islands at which travellers arrive.

Airport tax

All travellers departing on international flights are required to pay a departure tax of USD 20.

Place of payment: Airport of departure.

* Exemptions:
  1. Travellers with diplomatic passports.
  2. Children aged 5 years old.
Currency Import regulations

There are no restrictions on importing local currency (United States Dollar-USD) and foreign currencies provided a declaration is made upon arrival.

Currency Export regulations

Export of local currency (United States Dollar-USD) and foreign currencies is allowed up to the amounts imported and declared.
